Oceania: A Love Letter To The Ocean

Oceania is located in Thurgood Marshall Middle School in Rockford, Illinois. This example of art science integration is an ongoing source of curriculum, featuring a dynamic narrative all made by students.

The year-long project was made possible because of the hundreds of students at Marshall School, staff, family, friends, and because of the passion of three artists — Lisa Normoyle, David Stocker and Drew Helge.

The leverage and sponsorship gained from the Illinois Arts Council Agency grant award for this project was crucial in making Oceania a reality, as was the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois’ Blanche Martin Fund and the support of the Marshall PTO and staff.
